long live mcqueen

one of the most monumental events in the fashion world recently was the devastating and untimely death of designer lee alexander mcqueen. mcqueen was found dead in his london apartment, an apparent suicide. mcqueen was a true genius. a visionary. a one of a kind designer with an artistic ability that will always go unmatched. designer betsey johnson memorialized the designer on the runway

create, destroy, rebuild

one of the classes i am currently taken, which just so happens to be my favorite class, is my sewing lab. i've been sewing almost my entire life but with this class i already feel as if i've improved so much as a seamstress. we have three projects we must complete over the course of the semester: a skirt, blouse or shirtdress, and a pair of pants. today i completed my skirt out of muslin and finished the alterations to my prototype and to the pattern. i bought a beautiful forest green cotton/spandex blend for my fabric and it will have an invisible zipper down the center back seam. its a very simple pattern.

oh and my favorite piece from the marchesa fall 2010 collection, though not showin in nyfw, marchesa is and has always been my absolute favorite designer. The hemline is youthful and fun and the one shoulder neckline is chic and interesting, not to mention the strikingly beautiful color, enjoy:

so I was thinking...i haven't changed my look in a while and i think im ready to. most of last year i had blunt bangs which i loved, but they were hard to maintain. i was inspired by the beautiful camilla belle. i think that i might bring them back, after all, i can always grow them back out. just took so damn long. but now that i'm without them i feel like my face is missing something...

on a separate note, i want to discuss new mercedes benz fashion week which ended last thursday.  i wasn't able to watch all of the shows live, but hopefully as i go over all the shows i'll be able to give my reviews on here, though they may be a little delayed.

marc jacobs: usually i admire his designs for their fantastical, playful qualities and the story lines behind his shows, but i was disappointed to say the least with what i saw come down the runway for his fall 2010 collection. drab and lifeless are the two best adjectives i can find to describe this collection.  all pieces were very practical and office-conscious, possibly a reflection of the economic times and the demand for wearable pieces.  i was particularly not a fan of the mid-calf hemlines that seemed to dominate.  he threw in the occasional sequins and fur trim, though even though pieces were boring in shape, construction, and silhouette. overall it was boring, safe, and aging. why marc, why?

you can see the collection for yourself here: http://www.style.com/fashionshows/complete/F2010RTW-MJACOBS

here we go again

well, this is my third attempt at a blog. my roommate keeps a blog religiously but i've just never been able to stick with it...i'm hoping this time is different.

a little about myself: i'm a second year fashion design student and fashion is one of the greatest loves of my life. i enjoy music in every aspect; listening, creating, exploring.

thats all for now
